Co-leader of “More better"

More Better is a creative music quartet from New York City. More Better plays a fusion of different styles of Black American music, from bebop to free jazz. Using acoustic instruments fed through guitar pedals and other electronics, More Better creates a fusion of sound playing complex, weaving originals and modernized arrangements. As a group, we aim to bring together and uplift our community through our art.

Our originals and arrangements are reflections of young people living in the world today, while also paying homage to the traditions that came before us. The band has been featured at many of NYC’s top clubs including The Jazz Gallery, Jamaica Center for the Arts, BAM, 54 Below, The Bitter End, Williamsburg Music Center, 7eventy Two (72), and many more. They also held a residency at the historic Wally's Jazz Cafe every Wednesday before Covid.

From our live album release show at The Jazz Gallery in Summer of 2022. This live show and subsequent live album were leaps towards the future. The use of effects and audio manipulation heavily influenced the performance and recording.

Also from the release show at The Jazz Gallery, Bi-Weekly uses certain effects to change the time feel, groove, and harmonic qualities of the music.

Our first single off our first record, “More Better”. Recorded in a post and beam house that we converted into a studio. 16 mics, a 24-channel board, instruments, cables, and more were driven 2.5 hours upstate. Over a 3-day weekend, this record was born. “Keepin’ It” is written by Sam Reiss.

D.VA

In early 2023 Declan recorded a three-part series entitled “D.VA”, with collaborators Alex Yoo and Vittorio Stropoli. Using mostly EWI and effect pedals, Declan and friends co-led a fully improvised recording session, resulting in the following performances.

LIVE AT THE JAZZ GALLERY

In late 2021 Declan took the stage at The Jazz Gallery to present his live-form versions of previously individually-produced tracks. Armed with an EWI, Sax, and a plethora of effect pedals, Declan’s hypnotic melodies and lush chordal elements made for a near-sold-out performance. Joined by Sam Reiss, Vittorio Stropoli, Joshua Simpson, and Theo Rogers.
